Kuala Lumpur, 27 October 2016 – Langkawi, a world-renowned destination for leisure tourism, plans to expand its horizon by inviting nature and sports lovers to its islands. Organiser E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd and supporter Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), expands the successful pilot project of Tuba Trail Run in April to a triple treat for eco-sport athletes around the world.

Mountains, islands, beaches, forests and distinct inhabitants that create the 99 thickly forested topical islands located within the boundaries of Langkawi, will host a series of programmes under the umbrella of AkTION including the Tanjung Rhu SwimFest, Mount (Mt.) Mat Chinchang SkyBridge Climb, and the Tuba Trail Run. In 2007, UNESCO declared the Langkawi archipelago as one of 94 globally recognised Geoparks from 27 countries, endorsing its natural beauty, ecological harmony and archeological, geological and cultural significance.

Yang mana satu, pilihan kalbu? =D
“Langkawi is a well preserved natural habitat and has a unique geographical landscape that provides many opportunities to do eco-friendly sports. In April 2016, Tuba Trail Run was introduced as a pilot project to expose the less visited Tuba Island to the domestic running market.  With its success, we are now launching this brand new AkTION series that cover eco-sports on both land and water.  Langkawi is well connected with other states within Malaysia, and also from neighbouring countries. Therefore, our intent is to add eco-sports that is suitable for sports enthusiasts of all levels, as a pillar to supplement Langkawi’s popular leisure tourism,” said Iskandar Shahril, Managing Director, E-Plus Entertainment Productions for Singapore and Thailand.

Tan Sri Khalid bin Ramli, Chief Executive Officer of LADA, added that over 400 domestic and international participants joined the Tuba Trail Run in April this year. “LADA has cooperated with E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd to introduce the pilot programme that has resulted in a positive outcome. Moving forward, E-Plus will be incorporating more eco-sport events on many parts of the islands. While conventional tourism promotions will maintain tourism receipts, the implementation of AkTION will capture a new market and new interests towards our islands.”
Tahira Aliya sharing her recent experiences on becoming the Women's 2016 Asia Trail Master Champion during the        press conference.

He also mentioned that targets for the 2011-2015 tourism blueprint has exceeded its target of 3 million annual tourists. “In 2015, we received over 3.6 million tourists and expects to achieve 3.8 million this year. We are confident that the implementation of AkTION will boost tourist arrivals in a long run.”

Tanjung Rhu SwimFest
Mesmerizing Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi....
Tanjung Rhu SwimFest, an open water swimming competition happening on 10 December 2016, is available in three categories. The two-kilometer route is suitable for budding swimmers, while the four and six kilometer routes are recommended for multi-sport athletes including triathletes, and long distance swim enthusiasts. Starting by the captivating Tanjung Rhu beach, participants will be able to swim close to international borders, which provides a unique opportunity to experience Malaysia and Thailand in a single location. The Tanjung Rhu SwimFest will be the beach’s first international open water swimming event.

Mt. Mat Chinchang SkyBridge Climb
The iconic breathtaking Sky Bridge at Mount Mat Chinchang, Langkawi....
A trail opened exclusively for the Mt. Mat Chinchang SkyBridge Climb on raceday will bring new excitement for enthusiasts of all levels. The 4.5-kilometer climb finishes at the peak of the mountain after passing the cable car’s Middle Station, crossing across the renowned SkyBridge as well as climbing up to the Top Station. The climb will take place on 18 February 2017 and will be a truly unique way to discover the hidden jewels of Mt. Mat Chinchang.

“This will be the first time we are opening the trail for a race.  While the general public enjoy the journey up to Mt. Mat Chinchang by cable car, trail enthusiasts can seize the rare opportunity to experience it through the climb,” said Mohd Ali bin Makkit, Chief Operating Officer of Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd.

Tuba Trail Run

The awesome fascinating Tuba Island, Langkawi...
With 99 tropical islands lie within the boundaries of Langkawi, it is impossible to discover every single forest. Tuba Trail Run, a project to provide exposure to the less explored islands of Pulau Tuba and Pulau Dayang Bunting, will return on 8 April 2017 and continue to be an eye-opener for first-timers and returning participants as they explore deeper on the islands’ distinct culture. The 2017 edition will offer three varied distances, including a 4-kilometer fun run, a new 15-kilometer route and the 30-kilometer route to cater to runners of all levels.

“Langkawi will yield many benefits from AkTION.  Increase in tourism receipts driven by sports tourism, the showcase and exposure of Langkawi’s less explored landscape and environmental preservation will lead to a long-term positive economic outlook and prosperity,” concluded Tan Sri Khalid.

RUNNERS, CYCLISTS, POWER UP!

(from left) Muhammad Syafiq Rusli; Barbara Lam, Managing Director, E-Plus Entertainment Productions (M) Sdn Bhd; Tony Nagamaiah, General Manager, Malaysia Major Events; Mohammad bin Salleh, Community Service Director, Perbadanan Putrajaya; Iskandar Shahril, Race Director for Powerman Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia; and Shahrom Abdullah
Kuala Lumpur, 25 October 2016 – The world’s largest duathlon race in the Powerman series, Powerman Asia Duathlon Championships, will return to Putrajaya on Sunday, 5 March 2017 with greater expectation on foreign participation. Organised by E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd, over 3,000 local and foreign participants including top global athletes, multi-sport elites and enthusiasts are expected to take part in the run-bike-run race.

Powerman, the pinnacle for duathlon competition globally, is the platform for ardent runners and cyclists to progress and master both sports. The championships held in Putrajaya last March upon a two-year hiatus witnessed the tremendous growth of duathletes in the region, with a record-breaking number of 2,645 participants starting the race, breaking the Malaysia Book of Records for the ‘Largest Participation of Duathlon Championships’ in Malaysia.

“The proliferation of multi-sport athletes in the region is evident due to a growing trend in the multi-sports segment. Powerman is an accessible event for athletes to pursue a greater path by mastering an integrated sport. Putrajaya is one of the admired locations to host Powerman with its picturesque landscape and well-equipped social amenities, giving participants a world-class championship,” said Barbara Lam, Managing Director of E-Plus Entertainment Productions (M) Sdn Bhd.

Four adult categories namely the Individual Classic and Team Relay Classic (10km – 60km – 10km), and the Individual Short and Team Relay Short (5km – 30km – 5km), are available for registration.

“Powerman is a great stepping stone for regular runners and cyclists go beyond their limits. The four selected categories is specially catered to participants of different levels, from newcomers to seasoned enthusiasts. I welcome all single sport athletes to take part in Powerman as the new ground to explore and test their limits.”

Interested participants can register at www.powermanmalaysia.com
or You may register at http://reg.powermanmalaysia.com/registration/index/1.

Grassroots Programme for Kids
Powerkids, the newly introduced duathlon programme for children aged between 5 and 12, is part of the Asia Championship’s expansion to nurture talented and budding multi-sport athletes. To be launched in December 2016, the grassroots activity is about the joy of movement and the first experience for children to engage in a multi-sport event. This will be the championship’s pilot initiative to introduce a programme for children.

Powerkids is composed of three age categories: 5 to 7-year-old (0.4km – 1km – 0.4km), 8 to 10-year-old (0.8km – 2km – 0.8km), and 11 to 12-year-old (1.2km – 3km – 1.2km).

“Grooming new talent requires training from a young age. Powerkids provides the exposure for kids to learn, grow and compete. Having been successfully implemented in many European races, parents – especially those who are already Powerman duathletes themselves – may consider this opportunity to expose their children to the sports that they do,” said Iskandar Shahril, Race Director of Powerman Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Powerman Drives Sports Tourism in Malaysia

Dubbed as one of the premier endurance multi-sports race in the region, Powerman remained as one of the preferred races in the sports calendar. The Powerman Asia Duathlon Championship 2016 last March recorded more than 30 percent of foreign participation from more than 39 nationalities, with the greatest number from Singapore.

Mr Iskandar Shahril, Race Director for Powerman Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia is delivering his speech at the Powerman Asia Duathlon Championships 2017 – Malaysia’s press conference

“Malaysia’s transformation into a regional sports hub is evident. Over the years, we have witnessed a tremendous number of foreigners visiting the country to participate in various sporting events held all over Malaysia. Powerman is one example of an event that reflects Malaysia’s capabilities and capacities in organising major sporting events, which drives international participations, while generating high yield tourism receipts,” said Tony Nagamaiah, General Manager of Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

(from left) Muhammad Syafiq Rusli, second runner up for the 2016 Zofingen ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships; Shahrom Abdullah, professional multi-sport athlete; and Iskandar Shahril, Race Director for Powerman Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, discussing on the training regimes required by participants in preparation for the 2017 race.

Hosting major sports event brings great benefits to a city, including raising the host’s profile and increasing tourism dollars.  Primary tourism industries like the hospitality services, food and beverage are some of the businesses that will directly benefit from Powerman.

“The championship’s schedule will ensure a minimum overnight stay in Putrajaya. We are aiming to be the largest multi-sport event next year, and play a bigger role in importing tourists. With the latest inclusion of Powerman races in Thailand and Indonesia, the increasing demand will contribute towards the prestige of the Asia championships,” added Barbara.

The organiser will also increase its efforts overseas to boost foreign participation. Promotions have taken place in Switzerland and Thailand, while plans are in place for Singapore and Indonesia.

The nation’s federal administrative centre has also confirmed its inclusion of Powerman Asia Duathlon Championships 2017 as part of its month long Federal Territory celebrations from next year. “Powerman is a renowned global brand. Its past record has proven to drive positive benefits to Putrajaya’s local businesses. We foresee that this inclusion will bring greater economic impact,” noted Mohammad bin Salleh, Community Service Director, Perbadanan Putrajaya.

Powerman, The Platform for Sports Marketing

The growing sports industry in Malaysia has turned into a main profit generation for the country and participating corporations. Businesses leveraging on major international races are more likely to benefit by reaching out to its target audience through marketing strategies that can be activated prior to, during and post-race.

“Our programme is flexible and tailored not only for participants, but also for Multi-national Corporation and small and medium enterprises seeking for an effective path to grow their businesses locally and internationally. The association with Powerman will not only allow corporations to vie for brand positioning, but a chance to expand their businesses,” noted Barbara.

Powerman Expo and lucky draws are some of the exciting programme line-ups for participants during their race pack collection a day prior to the race.

SENSING SPIRITUAL MELAKA - MAPFest 2016 Features On-Tour Global Art Installations this November

MELAKA, 21 October 2016The eighth Melaka Art and Performance Festival (MAPFest) returns to the majestic city of Melaka from Friday to Sunday, 25 – 27 November 2016, 10AM to 10PM, with world-class artists lined-up to showcase their internationally recognised works. More than 40 artists from 10 countries will muster at St. Paul’s Hill to paint the skyline of Melaka with multi-disciplinary art display like contemporary dances, visual arts, multimedia arts, paintings and video arts, just to name a few. All events and performances during the festival is free admission.

MAPFest, was established in 2009 by Festival Director Andrew Ching and Creative Director Tony Yap, and has since grew into a well-received and much anticipated event by locals and the global art community. Artists from Australia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, India and the United States of America will gather in the prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing their global sold-out shows and newly arranged collaborative art performances.
Australia's Max Drowling
“Over the years, MAPFest has brought some of the best art and performances to our audience and fans. The overwhelming support created a solid foundation for us to pursue our passion in promoting Melaka as a hub for various art disciplines. We knew that our efforts all these years paid off when we were informed that the global art community is supporting our cause,” said Andrew.

“In recent years, MAPFest was recognised and has received several awards for various categories by numerous local and international awarding bodies. We believe the festival has contributed to the growth of the art scene in Melaka and Malaysia. We will continue to undertake this path with hope that more corporations will join us to support the festival financially or in-kind, to share our passion and to cultivate budding artists. Public and private sectors are welcome to join us and play a more active role in uplifting the art industry.”
France's Mic Guillaumes was in his elements
The eighth installment is set to elevate the festival with greater engagement, allowing visitors to conceive the art spiritually. Creative director and performance artists Tony Yap said that over the years, works presented in the festival were a stepping stone for the audience and fans to understand the fundamentals of art. “MAPFest has developed a philosophical vigor. The festival is now a rich ground where artists from different disciplines, background and levels of accomplishment can find a punctum for creation, collaboration, exchange and creative experimentation. Thus reminding ourselves of why we exist and the inexhaustible enthusiasm way for life is propelled through art.”

“We believe that the festival has reached its maturity for the public to further explore in art education. Only by examining the depths and the spiritual aspects of every work, will it allow us to immerse ourselves into understanding the true context and purpose of every art.”
Naked Peel by Christos Linou...
One of the highlights of MAPFest 2016 is ‘Naked Peel Part 4 (The Metaphysical)’ by Christos Linou, a twelve-hour interactive cross-disciplinary dance installation that investigates cultural migration, racism and sexual stereotyping. The work was inspired by a Greek Cyprian orange peel recipe, reflecting the hardship of migrants to build a family in foreign countries, insulted with words of racism and sexual taunts. The artwork was developed by Linou during his Masters study in Melbourne University, and has since performed around the globe. A sequel from the first three parts will be staged during the festival.
Memori "PRAHARA" by Kingkin Ayu Bondan Banowati

Indonesia’s trio – Kingkin Ayu Bondan Banowati, Indi Nidia and Ismy Dwi – will perform a dance routine titled ‘Kidung Prahara’, a performance that depicts the importance for Javanese women to conceal their feelings, and portray themselves with manners.
Malaysia's Local Artiste Chong Keat Aun
Home-grown performers including Lee Kien Fei, Rithaudin Abdul Kadir, Yii Kah Hoe and Chong Keat Aun and Kiea Kuan Nam will also participate in the festival.

MAPFest 2016 will be featuring various solo and collaborative performances over the 3 days festival. Main highlights include the MAPPING Programme, where performances are site specific and performed in various locations within the vicinity of St. Paul’s Hill; Cerita Pendik 1 & 2, a two hour solo or group performance by artists to showcase their individually unique art; and the finale, Eulogy for the Living, a two hour collaborative performance by all artists, directed by Tony. Other activities including free forums and workshops will be open for public participation.

“Themes of spiritual transformation create a frame for works of art. We inspire one another, support each other and encourage humble distinctions.” Tony added.
